Jean-Baptiste le Rond d’Alembert

This betting strategy is also known as “the pyramid”, but most punters know it as D’Alembert as per the inventors surname. This strategy came to betting from casino and is a progressive strategy somewhat similar to Martingale, but is less financially risky compared to it.

As you may already understood, progressive strategy should have a starting bet that is increased in case of a loss. You may also have noticed, that all financially progressive strategies deal with a certain minimum bet that increased or decreased in accordance with the bet outcomes.

D’Alembert – Practical Use

D’Alembert offers to pick a minimum bet amount and increase it by the same amount in case of a loss and decrease it when you win. This amount should always stay the same during the play.

The best odds coefficients to use this strategy are between 3.0 and 4.0. Let’s take coefficient 3.0 to demonstrate the system on a simple example:

Bet 1 – $10 – odds 3.00 – loss
Bet 2 – $20 – odds 3.00 – loss
Bet 3 – $30 – odds 3.00 – loss
Bet 4 – $40 – odds 3.00 – win ($120)
Bet 5 – $30 – odds 3.00 – loss
Bet 6 – $40 – odds 3.00 – loss
Bet 7 – $50 – odds 3.00 – win ($150)

The minimum bet here is $10. Our bankroll for this line should be $120 (betting bankroll management rule says that the bankroll size should spread on the iteration of 12 events). Let’s take a look at our bankroll change during the bets we made.

Bet 1 – Bankroll $120 – Bet $10 – loss
Bet 2 – Bankroll $110 – Bet $20 – loss
Bet 3 – Bankoroll $90 – Bet $30 – loss
Bet 4 – Bankroll $60 – Bet $40 – win $120
Bet 5 – Bankroll $180 – Bet $30 – loss
Bet 6 – Bankroll $150 – Bet $40 – loss
Bet 7 – Bankroll $110 – win $150
Bankroll – $260, Net profit $140

For those of you who think that this strategy is too risky (there is a big chance to loose the bankroll), there is a different light D’Alembert strategy available. That version of the strategy has a rule to decrease the bet after every loss and increase it after you win. This way you won’t risk that much and may gain a lot in case of consecutive wins.

Bet wise and think when it is suitable to use D’Alembert. Good luck!
